What you get
One click to connect
Sign in with Google from Results → Connect. Forms creates and names the sheet for you.
History included
Existing responses are copied in first, so the sheet is complete from day one.
Near real time
Each new response is appended as a row a few seconds after it’s submitted.
Tight permissions
Forms can only see files it made itself. The rest of your Drive stays private.
Retries built in
If Google is briefly unavailable, Forms retries, and shows the last error if something needs you.
Uploads to Drive too
Turn on “Save to Google Drive” on a file question and uploads go to a folder per form.
Set it up in three steps
- 1
Open a form’s Results and choose Connect next to Google Sheets.
- 2
Sign in with Google and allow access to the files Forms creates.
- 3
Done. Existing responses are added, and new ones follow automatically.
Free to start
Every plan includes this, Free too. One active form and 100 responses a month, no card needed.
Compare plansHow to send form responses to Google Sheets
Open the form’s Results, choose Connect next to Google Sheets and sign in with Google. Forms creates a new spreadsheet in your Drive named after the form, writes every response you already have, and from then on adds each new response as a row a few seconds after it’s submitted. There’s nothing to set up in Sheets and no add-on to install.
What the spreadsheet looks like
- One row per response, newest at the bottom.
- One column per question, plus the submission time, so you can sort and filter straight away.
- Values are written as plain values, not formulas, so an answer can never run as a formula in your sheet.
- Add a question later and it gets a new column as responses come in. Nothing already in the sheet moves.
- Your own formulas, charts and pivot tables can live on another tab and update as rows arrive.
Google Sheets, export or webhooks?
Use Google Sheets when people on your team live in spreadsheets and want responses there without lifting a finger. Use an Excel, CSV or JSON export for a one-off analysis or an archive. Use webhooks on Pro when responses need to reach another app, like a CRM or Slack, the moment they arrive. You can use all three on the same form.
What Forms can see in your Google account
Only the files Forms creates. Forms asks for Google’s drive.file permission, which covers files the app made itself and nothing else, so your other spreadsheets, documents and folders stay out of reach. You can disconnect a sheet from Results at any time; the spreadsheet stays in your Drive.

New questions get new columns as responses come in, so nothing is lost.
Can I stop syncing?+
Yes. Disconnect the sheet from the form’s Results. The spreadsheet stays in your Drive.
